This route covers the island’s literary and geological west: Sappho’s birthplace and the long beach at Eresos, then the Petrified Forest, castle and marine park at Sigri.
Eresos & Skala Eresou
Start in Eresos village, birthplace of Sappho and Theophrastus, then head down to Skala Eresou for the long beach, the wetland turtle lake, and a sunset taverna.
A western Lesvos day with geological depth
Begin in inland Eresos or at the archaeological landscape, continue to Skala Eresou for the coast, and reserve the second half of the day for Sigri and the Petrified Forest. The distances are manageable, but museums and protected sites require enough time to be worthwhile.
Pacing and verification
Use the route as a framework rather than a target list. Remove a stop when museums, meals, swimming or village walks take longer than expected, and confirm current opening hours, road access and seasonal services before departure.

Sigri
Continue west to Sigri: the Natural History Museum of the Petrified Forest, Sigri Castle over the harbour, and, conditions permitting, a boat trip to the Nisiopi Marine Park.
If you have extra time, add Antissa or Vatousa on the drive between the two, both good stops for a traditional village square and a coffee.
