Day 1: Kalloni Saltpans and Tsiknias river mouth
Arrive in Skala Kallonis and spend the afternoon at the saltpans and river mouth, the island’s single best birding location, especially at dusk.
Day one: Kalloni basin and saltpans
Begin around the Kalloni saltpans and surrounding fields, changing observation points as light and bird movement shift. Break in Kalloni or Skala Kallonis, then return for late-afternoon activity rather than driving to a distant region.
Day two: add habitat variety
Choose a second habitat according to season: the western valleys and open volcanic land, wetlands toward the gulfs, or upland and forest routes. Keep the plan flexible and follow current local bird reports without crowding sensitive sites.
Pacing and verification
