Epano Skala, Lesvos

Epano Skala

Epano Skala is Mytilini’s old harbour neighbourhood, and one of the most layered corners of the capital: it sits over the site of ancient Mytilini’s northern harbour (the Malois Limen), carries the memory of Asia Minor refugees who settled here after 1922, and still functions as a market-and-harbour district with the castle visible above. Walking through Epano Skala links archaeology, refugee history and everyday market life in a way few other parts of the city do.
