A deeper look at Nees Kydonies

The village retains its identity as a community of Asia Minor Greeks, with cultural and historical ties to the opposite coast that are still felt. Skala Neon Kydonion is the coastal settlement, a small bay with a beach that has developed modestly as a summer resort.

The eastern coast north of Mytilini combines thermal-water history, prehistoric archaeology, olive cultivation and settlements connected with movement across the Aegean. The sea is always present, but the region is more layered than a sequence of beaches.
