What to See and Do in Skala Kallonis
The papalina (Kalloni sardine) is what this harbour is famous for throughout Greece — order them grilled at a taverna on the water with ouzo and bread. The Sardine Festival in August is the peak celebration.
The Kalloni Saltpans south of the harbour are visible from the road. Flamingos are present for much of the year. Spring migration (April–May) brings waders, herons, terns and hundreds of migrating passerine species. The shallow gulf beach is family-friendly and warms early in the season.
