Sigri is the island’s western threshold: a quiet harbour facing open horizons, linked to the Petrified Forest, the Nisiopi Marine Park, a small castle, and the wind and volcanic landscapes that define this end of Lesvos. Its name is often connected with the Venetian word for “safe harbour,” though that etymology should be treated as tradition rather than confirmed fact. Beyond the Natural History Museum of the Petrified Forest, Sigri rewards travellers with genuine geotourism, volcanic rock, geopark trails and a real edge-of-the-map feeling.

Where to Stay near Sigri
There’s not much to book directly in Sigri. The practical base for this part of the island is Eresos, a short drive away. Stay there and treat Sigri as a stop on a day out.
Sigri makes the best base for exploring the Petrified Forest and the western Geopark trails, allow a half or full day for the museum, castle and a Nisiopi boat trip if it’s running.
