Vatera is one of the longest beaches on Lesvos, but it is more than a summer sandbar: the coastline connects to the Agios Fokas headland, ancient maritime routes and a locally noted fossil collection linked to nearby Vrisa. The beach itself is straightforward and family-friendly, with a low-key resort atmosphere close to Polichnitos and Vrisa rather than a built-up strip.

What to See and Do

  • one of the longest beaches on Lesvos, ideal for long walks and family swimming
  • the Agios Fokas headland area at the beach’s edge
  • a low-key summer resort atmosphere
  • proximity to Polichnitos and Vrisa
