Skala Kallonis
Skala Kallonis is the harbour of Kalloni — the sardine tavernas, the Kalloni Saltpans with their flamingos and the wetland edges that make this one of Europe’s most important birdwatching sites.

What to See and Do in Skala Kallonis
The papalina (Kalloni sardine) is what this harbour is famous for throughout Greece — order them grilled at a taverna on the water with ouzo and bread. The Sardine Festival in August is the peak celebration.
The Kalloni Saltpans south of the harbour are visible from the road. Flamingos are present for much of the year. Spring migration (April–May) brings waders, herons, terns and hundreds of migrating passerine species. The shallow gulf beach is family-friendly and warms early in the season.
See the Birdwatching guide for full saltpan and migration detail.
How long: Half a day. Best combined with: Kalloni town, Leimonos Monastery, Agia Paraskevi. Best for: Birdwatchers, foodies, families (shallow beach), sardine festival visitors, nature lovers.
