Thermal Springs in Lesvos
Lesvos sits above a zone of geothermal activity. The springs at Thermi were known to the Romans. Eftalou, Polichnitos, Gera and Argenos offer different experiences of the same volcanic story.
Ancient bathing tradition — five volcanic spring sites

Travel to Lesvos
Eftalou, near Molyvos
The most atmospherically located thermal facility in Lesvos — a domed stone bathhouse at the edge of the sea, 3 km east of Molyvos, where hot mineral water fills communal marble tubs. The water is genuinely hot; the experience is old-fashioned in the best sense. The pebble beach in front provides swimming. Check current opening hours before visiting — seasonal variations apply.
Polichnitos Hot Springs
The Polichnitos springs emerge at temperatures among the highest of any accessible thermal facility in Europe. The baths are developed for therapeutic immersion. The water is distinctly sulphurous — the smell is not subtle — and the tradition is genuinely medical rather than recreational. Check current opening hours, access and prices before visiting.
Thermi (Loutropoli Thermis), near Mytilini
The Thermi baths north of Mytilini have been used since Roman times. The Sarlitza Palace nearby — a grand neoclassical building built for the fashionable thermal tourists of an earlier era — is a visible reminder of this coast’s 19th-century reputation. More formally developed than Eftalou; check current access.
Gera / Korfos Baths
The Gera baths on the Gulf of Gera shore are smaller and less developed — a more rustic bathing experience in a sheltered gulf setting. Check local access conditions before visiting.
Argenos, North Coast
Thermal water access in the Argenos area on the north coast. Less developed than other sites; check current access and status locally before planning a visit.
